Many people love the PRR GG-1 electric locomotives with their sleek lines. Do many people know that the prototype GG-1 was not a smooth skinned sleek machine, but a riveted monster? The very first GG-1, #4800 which is also preserved in Strasburg, PA was nicknamed "Old Rivets" for obvious reasons. The GG-1s were not modified much during their lifespans, but after the first one the body panels were welded rather than riveted to give the sleek appearance that made them a favorite of the railroad world.
Good to see these. The Pacific Electric had nothing like these.
