The proportions and decorative elements of this piece are just exquisite. It's an average size mirror of this type, with a vertical length spanning 40". I believe this to be an early American example dating somewhere in between 1800 and 1815. The bottom decoration represents a 13-striped bunted flag with every other "ribbon" darkened originally with shellac. The aggressive eagle atop is similar to the representations seen on the early US coinage issues (especially the draped bust gold "small eagle" design of 1795-98). A true survivor. Probably made in Boston.
