Hello CW friends!!
This is another of my many antique top hats and cases. This particular one comes with it's original case. This set was manufactured by the Knox Hat Company of New York around the 1890 period or earlier.
When I took possession of this one, it was in extremely poor condition and just needed some TLC. I cleaned and polished the silk top hat (Don't usually give away any of my restoration secrets, but K-Y Jelly and a hat polishing pillow works great for that), cleaned and conditioned the leather case and cleaned out the interior of the case.
The latch strap is broken and the leather side straps have deteriorated over the last 125 years. Not one of my better top hats, but still rather nice. I bought this one in a lot that also included a Victorian men's waist coat. I'll have to post that sometime very soon.

Thanks!! Yes, it is fairly rare and always very exciting to find the original sets still together. I have several that have the owners' initials stenciled on the case, as well as the hat. I love the case and the hat. If I owned a top hat, I"d put together a vignette on Presidents Day and use it to represent Abe! !Thanks for sharing! Mary Guess I would also need a powdered wig for George!

Thank you So much!! I'd model the hat, but unfortunately men were quite a bit smaller back then. I wear a 7 1/8 hat and most that I have are 6 5/8 to 6 7/8. I have 3 that are 7 3/8 and they are waaaaayyyy too big for me. When I acquire a 7 1/8 top hat, I promise to model it:) Thanks for the love and the comment. Always very truly appreciated!!

I always wondered that about every hat I own. I have about 25 top hats in my collection and, out of all those top hats, I have the history of only a couple. Here's a really cool hat with a wonderful history that I posted about 6 or 7 years ago.
