I watched the recent remake and it was great! That said, the original book and tv series was phenominal!! My uncle went to a book signing in Charlotte on November 20, 1976 and got this signed edition for my dad. As you can see, the book jacket is a little rough from several reads. One of my favorite reads!

That book caused a lot of racial trouble in the West Indies ! The recent movie was revisionist history based on very little truth. I love history, but don't like it brought back to life when it causes violence. Much of this was irresponsible. Sorry if you don't agree.
Well shoot! I thought this was my happy place. Nice folks sharing favorite things and little confrontation. Gonna be enough of that in the upcoming months for sure!
blunderbuss2, you will have to be sorry cause I don't agree. I am not sorry that a book caused some discomfort amongst folks whose ancestors owned other human beings. I don't know what you refer to when you state that history causes violence. When I was a child in school I bought what the teachers and textbooks dished out. As an adult I do not buy any history as 100% factual because we humans as historians are flawed. Mr. Haley told a very good story and he reached so many in a positive way. I read this. It is not mine. Pay attention to his truths, not his facts. peace! mary
