Hi there,
We just purchase a house an this chandelier is part of the dinning room.
I am in love with it, but don't know anything about it.
We plan to do minor restoration, it could use some TLC
The previous owner did not know anything about, except that is hanging there since the 1920's when the house was built. The house is Neo Georgian.
Material Resemble brass, but weighs like it is made of cast iron.
Approximately 4' wide x 5' height
Some signs that it might have been gas, but it is not clear as the gas tubing
seem to have been removed, only partial pieces left.
Based on the wiring, it was converted to electric in the 1920's.
Apparently the conversion to electricity was done by an amateur or else they had limited resources to have it done properly.
No markings that gives any clue of its maker and model.
I am in love with it, I would like to learn more about its background, I plan to keep where it is, attention stealer
I found one of the original brass chandeliers in Jamaica that belonged to one of the heirs to the Campbell's soup fortune who died in Jamaica. It was in a Jamaican woodworker's shop under a bench when I found it. It took me 3 trips from Jamaica to St. Eustatius to move it all. Each part was numbered or marked at the base of the parts as to it's position & was easy to assemble, but there was no maker's mark. It had only been partially converted to elec. & my home in St. Eustatius (Nederlands Antilles) was 300 yrs old, so I left it candle powered. Don't know why I got into that story except that you poste reminded me of my experience.
