This is a original needle point art with poetic expression and the identified artist name, hand made in the year 1839. The poem : " I sigh not for beauty nor languish for wealth, But grant me kind providence virtue and health, When richer than kings and more happy then they, My days shall pass sweetly and swiftly away " The needlepoint inscribed :" Jane Orme finished this work June 28 , 1839 ". The mystery : place of origin and if possible , the artist/poet. Thank you in advance .

      What's your Mystery?

Here's a Jane Orme born 1805 North Carolina, married 1822. But she'd be too old to have done this in 1839, I think. This would be a child's (or young teen's) sampler, I would think.

The house is a Saltbox style. I think those were more north eastern style?

Amazing how many people named Jane Orme there are.

Thanks for your efforts in helping solve this mystery. The best I could find on Jane Orme was on the Ancestery web site. A Jane Orme was born in North Carolina in 1805 and passed away in 1860. I will accept this as fact and let the mystery rest. I put this sampler on EBay today and received a offer for$300 in 2 minutes after hitting the List your auction button ! I can't help but wonder if the buyer knows something I don't know.

      Hi,
I don't know if this is too late for you now, but I just signed up collectors weekly and saw your mystery.
I know nothing about Jane Orme but I found a few interesting things about the poem.
You can see it in the following links:
