About 1.25" wide at the widest and 5/8" tall at the tallest. Marked 18K on the back. Simple pinback. Any ideas?

Shows a PPSH machine pistol, so I would venture a guess at WWII pin.

      18k stands for 18 kopek.
The pin says "Bryansk- the City of Partisan Fame". Bryansk is a town in Russia. This honorable title is given to a city for heroic acts of its population against fascists during WWII.
Not sure how old the pin is. Most likely any time from 1950-1980s.

Wow...you folks are great! So I am confused on the 18 kopek - what does that reference?
    4. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 8 years ago
      Yeah. What's a kopeck ?
    5. Gillian, 8 years ago
      Kopek:

A monetary unit of Russia and some other countries of the former Soviet Union, equal to one hundredth of a ruble.
    6. Gillian, 8 years ago
      ? Kopeck
    7. AnnaB AnnaB, 8 years ago
The Soviet ruble/rouble (the currency of the Soviet Union) was divided into 100 kopeks (also transliterated as kopecks or copecks. Russian: kopeyka).-wiki

To give you a sense of how much 18k was, it was enough to buy a loaf of bread, or an ice-cream, or a pack of soviet cigarettes, or a bar of soap.

There's actually a monument in Bryansk at the entrance to the city that looks identical to the pin. It was installed in 1971. The pin is from the 1970s.
      http://duma.pkgo.ru/images/news/Bryansk/bryansk-gorod_partizanskoy_slavy1.jpg

The title "Bryansk-the City of Partisan Fame" was used by the city unofficially since the 1960s until 2011 when the city was awarded an honorable title of "The City of Warrior Fame" officially. (summarized and translated from wiki)
