While stumbling around eBay, I came across this amazing and hilarious box made to hold Mattel's original Allan doll. Allan Sherwood was introduced as a friend for Ken and a potential double-date partner for Barbie and her bestie, Midge. The box has a copyright date of 1963 on one edge.
Besides the fun illustrations of '60s fashions, I thoroughly enjoy Mattel's advertising copy: "He's Ken's Buddy!" "All of Ken's clothes fit him!" Looks like the boys have a lot of fun dressing and undressing together. ;-)
Check out this great vintage television commercial for Allan's big coming out party! Plus skin-diving and picnicking in the country: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQDkqLa8NvU
"You can tell they're Mattel: They're SWELL!"
Mattel needed another guy for Midge so she wasn't a tag along with Ken and Barbie . Love your sayin' "You can tell they're Mattel: They're SWELL!" Yep they are :-)
Those were the days, eh? LOL
Thanks Mani & Bonnie! The Mattel slogan came straight from the youtube video - it's hilarious. :)
I was, once upon a time, drowning in a sea of vintage Barbies and Friends. Now, I climb mountains of jewelry, lol!
haha, well at least you can wear the jewelry Bonnie!
Awww Sweet!! Gee I wonder if THIS might have been related to Allan?? Or not?

They do look sorta similar, huh Rose? But I think your guy might be 70s/80s-era. Thanks for looking!
How do Ken and Allan afford all those facy evening clothes, they work at a malt shop ??
Phil Ken had lots of jobs from a airline pilot to a Doctor and many more . Barbie was his nurse and stewardess . They had about 40 different jobs each . So I guess Ken had money and Allen borrowed his clothes :-)
Sounds like Ken was quite the high roller! How convenient that Allan was exactly the same size. ;)
that is very cool !!! lol dressing and undressing together!!! heehee :)
