Hi all CW. No glass finds lately but this necklace reminded me of a few glass window vases I have seen here. It was front and center in the store and it was only $1.00 and I thought some of you might like seeing it.

It weighs 3.5oz. With the clasp closed it is about 12-1/2" long. It has 7 decorated (stone or shell inserts) 5 sided "balls" (for lack of a better description) and 4 plain "balls" that appear to be melded together. In the last pic you can see the double wrapped what looks like rope. There are two strands of this "rope" in another area, but I couldn't get a pic of it. It's filthy dirty looking in the jewelers loupe.
The first 2 men I showed it to at work today both put it on?? and one put it in his hair. It was quite lovely on they younger man. :)

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful evening, day wherever you are.

Any information would be wonderful because I have no idea..as usual.;)
    ** UPDATE**
Took to a new jeweler who buys/sells and he said this is nickel silver. :(

Update** somebody didn't like the pic or something.

It's silver - I would clean it with Wright's silver polish. My guess would be MAYBE India. The little balls in between the long tubes are interesting.

Celiene, Are you serious? Well that is a total different path than what I was on. Big surprise there. LOL
One of the men that put it on today said the same thing about the little "joints". ;)
I'll have to try that polish. Or are you supposed to leave the patina "dirt" on there?

What a fantastic necklace! It looks very handmade with the inset balls and the hook. Good one OGF!

Thanks for the info again Celiene.
Thanks for the awesome comments Karen and Scott. And thank you Dizzy for the info on the inserts. I don't understand what slag glass is but I have been trying and...
Thanks for the loves: lisa, vetra, Record, Karen and Scott.
      Very different item for me.
And I thought my hard drive was going bad for the last couple months and it turns out " it's the cable box". Gotta love paying those companies. Bless their hearts!!

Speak for yourself 1GF! Come on over for a hash brownie. Not nearly as rough on the throat & much more mellow.

BB2, let me just say I love you before I show up on your doorstep. I love brownies but petty sure the rest would kill me. I would really enjoy an evening with you and your brownies!! :0)

A buck? A fabulous buy. What an interesting necklace! One of the most interesting bits of jewelry I have seen in quite a while. I would have bought it, too. Don't clean it too much - the patina is part of what gives it it's vintage appeal. The hook clasp tells me it's most likely 1970s, or maybe early 1980s.
I would recommend starting out using a special silver cloth, because it would be hell trying to get silver polish out of all those seams and crevices. Another reason to use a cloth instead of liquid is because the necklace is strung on string rather than on a silver "thread". I think it could be a low grade of silver such as 800. A jeweler can verify whether or not it actually is silver.

Can you show the young men, PLEASE! Ô..ô ;-D

Agree with all friends, very interesting, I think shell or M.O.P. inlay, has a, oxydized silver patina!
I'm with Bonnie for the silver cloth part, and cautious cleaning :-)

I would like to see the photo of your colleagues with the necklace in hair.
      Congrats to the find!

Had this tested today at a Boutique. She was 15 ish, and very sweet. (I wanted to tell her how lucky she is to be learning so much but I didn't) She rubbed a piece of it onto a black square and put two drops of a chemical on it. The lines disappeared so she said it was silver. IDK. But it hit me today this looks like a lantern so I googled the $hi+ out of it on my cell and I have the worst headache ever. (why I can't look at jewelry) ;(.
I'm thinking Celiene is correct that it is of that region. And I agree the polish would be too much for me. There is a new jeweler in town so I may go there on the cheap tomorrow? ;)
Thanks for the interest and nice comments Bonnie (and info), Caper, and for kyra and lentika :) The vendor will be back next Wednesday. Can't promise but I will certainly try. :) I'll ask the other guy too. He has lots of silver!!
Thanks for the loves also to: BB2, Tassie, Bonnie, Martika, kyra, mel, Thomas, sklo, Phil, vintage lentika and inky. Thanks for the fun BB2!!
