Thank you so much for your lovely visit, Mani!!!
fabulous!!
I will not make simple "noise" on the page by adding unnecessary comments such as "oh! nice!" or "pretty!"-
The hanging monkeys is a typical Japanese theme- it is a symbol of good luck to have the hanging monkeys as a wind chime or front door embellishment. This MAY or may NOT help you in your search, but trying to narrow it down by perhaps looking for Japanese importers who make jewelry and trinkets for foreign buyers may help. Is it from war-time? that's possible- when were we in Japan? etc- hope this helps
Thank you Analog for your comment and your willing to help!
I know for sure these are not Japanese :-)
They are featured in Robin Deutsch site (link in comment#1), last pic when you scroll down the page.
Early models dating end of Victorian era, last ones 1930's.
She said several makers did them!
Other paste brooches bearing the mysterious mark...

Pascale, have you seen this listing......your mystery mark but described differently!!

Yes Judy :-) Thank you!
I track all pieces with that mark, even created a Pinterest board with all I saw...
Even some sellers described it as French import silver mark... No! The mark for that is a Swan in an oval :-)
Huge collective thank you to all 30 mystery lovers ;-)
hi kyra i believe this mark belongs to neiman marcus beverly hills estate jewelry. see #Y39011/39111
http://www.morninggloryantiques.com/collectpastes.html
The logo of neiman marcus also resembles the mark

Let me know what you think!
Looks like your mystery is solved, kyratango. Darling little monkeys! :)
Hi Fleafinder, the Morning Glory's monkeys are inspired from the ones I showed, but obviously not same... No visible marks to compare...
The link to Neiman Marcus shows a Cartier-Bresson lighter, and I haven't been able to find any Neiman Marcus mark...
Thanks a lot for your research, but still a mystery :-/
Katherine, thank you too :-)
This one has the second monkey in colored gemstones:

Thank you Davyd, I hadn't seen these on your link before.
I'm on my phone during the holidays and will have a look to the mark on the tail from my pc
:-)
for davyd's monkey in the link it seemed tonhave more gem stones on it!
Yes Fleafinder, those on Davyd's link have diamonds, not paste.
This model of "playful monkeys" or acrobatic monkeys were made too in precious stones :-)
yep i prefer this version. The other on the link is alittle too gaudy for me
I'm very fortunate to have Robin Deutsch as an online friend and teacher. According to her, this mark remains a mystery, which many people have been trying to solve for years. In a discussion last week about these monkey brooches, she said they were based upon earlier designs from the late 1800's (those were often real gold and rose-cut diamonds) and made by several companies as a novelty piece.
Oooh, thank you Clementine, you are indeed very fortunate to be in relation with Robin Deutsch!
At least I now know many people are on the search too!
One day the light will pop up :-)
Huge big thanks to you, Sean and all 34 lovers :-)
Kyratango fleafinder was on to something in the link to morning glory antiques. There are two pendants that are interesting. Our mark is there and one also has the same backdetails as on my brooch that I posted. On one of the items they say 1910.

Also on morning glory: you have to press "view" to see the back of their brooch.

Yep, sellers of antique paste jewellery have at least one piece from the "mysterious maker"
Great search Elisabeth!
Haha! Look at what modern repros of these monkeys look like, and notice the description, (pristine condition, art deco...) making believe they are old!

These are so cute!!
Thank you Mrstyndall :-))
Thanks too for your loves, Poire and Bijou!
Definitely some of the coolest paste jewelry I have seen, kyra! Such a great find of yours.
Well, these repros are the ugliest pieces Pascale!!! Absolutely not patch on your beautiful pieces!!!
Bijou, I'm in love with paste and animal jewellery, these tick all the buttons :-)) Thank you!
Judy, I suspect these repros are made in India... But not found yet the wholesale site ;-))
Beware... they are more and more on Ebay...!
Now after all this time I am more envious than ever. So much fun this piece is with the monkeys it is a time stopper for any jewelry afficiendo, magnifico !|
