This heavy and thick plate marked FRANCE has thrown me for a loop. There are no other hallmarks on the plate. I would like to know if it is part of a set or an individually painted piece. Measuring 8.5 inches in diameter the plate is very thick porcelain/china. A quaint scene of a dog sitting in front of a hearth with kettle over open flame is featured. The outer perimeter of plate has heavy Gold gilding.

Would like to know the time period of this piece and any other information before I display it in my china cabinet.

I don't think it was part of a set, this is more display. Quality not great. Back in the day ladies would buy these porcelain blank plates, cups and sit around with other ladies and paint these scenes, flowers etc.

thanks Dave...I thought it was hand painted as the condition is rough...but what about the gold leafing? did they take it someplace to have the leafing applied. appreciate your response. Bea
