    My grandmother had this doll and when she passed away I got it. I know nothing about it except my grandmother said it was old. On the back it say Made in Japan but nothing else. Would like any info on it. Please email me at lorids_77@yahoo.com. I dont care if it has any value just would like to know something about it. Thanks.

      "Made in Japan" is not a very old mark. "Japan" would be older. Cute tho.'

      There is something about her that is just plain charming. She's a keeper.

      Without double checking in my books, she appears to be a 'frozen Charlotte', a one piece unjointed body, with no movable parts. The name of the doll is said to come from a the 1840's and in the 1860's from a poem about a socialite young lady, named Charlotte, who wore a gossamer gown to a ball and froze to death, quite solid. Most were made of china or crude bisque; naked, although some had molded clothes, and some had fabric clothes. Some people called the smaller dolls -teacup dolls - and often would tie a ribbon around one or more, and bake them inside a birthday cake; the guests would pull out the ribbons and have little favors to take home. There were also 'Frozen Charlies' who were little boys. They ranged in size from an inch or two, to 10 to 12 inches and taller.

      FYI; Items from Japan were marked Nippon between 1890 and 1921. After that they were marked either Japan or Made in Japan, until 1945, when they were marked Occupied Japan or Made in Occupied Japan for a few years.
