Inherited from a great uncle who recently died aged 87 in Australia. Have no idea of the background, has a stamp in base of metal but I can't make sense of it. If anyone has any information or ideas to point me in the right direction of finding out about its origins, would be very much appreciated,
Thanks - Pam
bowl appears to be Hobbs, Brockunier & Co. #101 'Daisy and Button' c1884, and the color is called amberina.
Thanks - that helped me greatly on my search! I have discovered the metal bit is a Reed and Barton brides basket, silver plated, the stamp underneath reads - ?? Plated? Reed & Barton 4480. The figurines on it are based on the 1800's famous children's author Kate Greenaway. I'm not sure if the two companies worked together or if the glass bowl and brides basket were purchased separately, but I suspect they were purchased as the one item.
you're very welcome. very nice combination of Reed& Barton's Kate Greenaway silverplate with amberina Hobbs Brockunier daisy and button master berry bowl. The combination is often called a 'bride's basket'.
