I have no idea what this is called or what it is used for. Is it an "as is" manufactured tool or is it a home made thing. I have never seen anything like this. This is an estate find my mother-in-law picked up. I don't have in hand to give a better description.

I was thinking that it would be a good coconut knife & cracker.

Out of the hundreds I've seen, never one with a spike on the end. Sharpened hook, yes. Spike, no.

Dizzy, I'm not going to get into anything, but I've seen scores of things mis-identified, especially on the net. The generally accepted rule of law in cane areas is, the blade can't be exposed, but has to be at least wrapped in paper (usually newspaper) on the streets. Something that could pop a hole in a skull & kill so easily, I don't think would be considered acceptable on the streets or buses just wrapped in paper ! For a "coconut guy" on a corner, yeah. The blade would be good for shaving the top of a coconut & the spike good for popping a hole on the top to get the water or milk. Then the blade could be used again to split the nut. I have a nasty Jamaican "cutlass" that I posted, but would trade it for this as a weapon !

That's more like it Dizzy. Didn't think that 1st was anywhere near correct. I've lived around cane fields for well over 40 yrs. now & bought many cane knives, so know the patterns. I would still like to have one of these, but shipping would be twice the cost of one. Guess I'll just have to rely on my Browning ! LOL !! If I can't cure the problem in 13 rds., I deserve what happens ! LOL!!
