    Anyone who has Truitt volume II may recognise this décor. It appears on p. 67, specifically images 3-5 and 7-9. The book states that of 7-9, image 9 is marked Czechoslovakia. This vase is not marked which would be normal for the U.K., though it does have heavy wear to the base.

    The book does not give an attribution for the décor but 18 years later the décor may have been identified. Though it looks black and rust the glass is orange/red between outer and inner layers of amethyst. See image four.

    I found it in the ceramics section of a charity shop selling mostly furniture!

      I haven't seen the decor before - thanks for sharing.
      Yes,sometimes colour is deceptive .And this is why glass is so interesting material.

      The decor of this, but not the shape, is similar to some Japanese glass I have seen.
      I like those earthy browns and blacks, and seeing the change under light is like an easter egg!

      Ivonne, it didn't particularly even look like glass on first sight, but holding it up to the light was very revealing. I was expecting to find an unglazed ceramic rim on the base!

      Karen, after finding it was glass, I did think of your comment that the Japanese like big and wondered as it's also very glossy. Then I remembered Truitt, got home, and bingo!

      Good finds in charity shops here are rare, but not unknown!

      very Beautiful!! From my understanding there is really no such thing as *Black* glass -- but it is always such a dark AMETHYST that it looks black. Or on other words BLACK AMETHYST. Such as what you see when you hold up to the light. True black glass is rare and most is really very concentrated purple, brown or green

      Your find is A+++++++
