Very heavy for its size ... my hand should give you some dimension. Probably weighs about 50 lbs. I found this cleaning up my old home place in Arkansas. It seems to be perhaps piece of a farm machine or sawmill.

The pointed end would poke into cut end of log, like a lathe?
It's a "tailstock" off something. Would be a strange lathe to me if that's what it goes on.
I was thinking more along sawmill...

You have what is called a Post Drill press and it would be mounted in a barn when electric wasn't around
So what powered it? It appears to have been belt driven.
It looks as though your missing handle to crank

What you have here is called a Post drill press it was used on farms when there wasn't any elec it was mounted in a barn on a post hence post drill press and it dates back about 100 years. I have one I completely rebuilt nice find
