Not sure but is there a stamp/sign then the rest of CW might know.Or perhaps can youtake a zoomed in picture of the red words. Red words are usually the name of the person and from there you might find the period he existed

I just knew what they were called, Im use to seeing these from Japan. But like I said, I can't translate so We had to wait on someone who could. So Fleafinder is the guy on translating.

Dave, Shibayama is inlay work, this piece is etched and colored, so Shibayama doesn't fit what it is :-)

From the ivory patina and the case, I think it is rather 50's.
The pictures distort the true color of the piece, it has more patina than the pictures show.
Has anyone been able to identify the characters in red?
Fleafinder, I'm looking at the link you posted. The characters in my mind dont match up to the ones you suggested.
