Dear collectors I hope you are able to help me.
After my doing a long time I have a demand for you..I show you this full body cameo set in ornate decorated marked Sterling Silver .
The subject is a young woman in highest relief. She protrudes from the surface of the cameo in 3 dimensional high-relief, and is carved even underneath. It is like a small wearable statue! The lady has a ringlet of leaves and grapes in her meticulously detailed hair. And even her necklace is beautiful detailed carved.
But I wonder what material this cameo was made ? This high relief cameo depicts a gorgeous sheathe draped female Bacchante with grapes and grape leaves in her hair. The brooch measures 2.2 inches (5.5 cm.) high and almost 1.7 inches 4.4 cm.) wide. It is very substantial and weighs 44 grams.
I suppose the clasp was originally a simple open "C" but changed into a later dated safety clasp. The pin shaft is also silver.
The cameo itself is so magnificent! But I still looking for what was it was made of??? Warm to touch, proved no Bakelite could be another kind of plastic. But the brooch is so heavy?? I don’t want to do the hot needle proof because damaging the cameo. Unfortunately I cannot see the back of the cameo because it (see photo) is not visible the setting is completely closed.
I washed the cameo with water and soft soap only a little dirt was going off.
If you might have an idea of the date on which this cameo created could be?? Please let me know you idea!

      Hi Marga!
      She's a substantial brooch!
Here is a sister to yours :-)

Can't agree with their description... Neither "genuine amber", nor 1870...

They are obviously moulded resin :-/

In my opinion, Victorian revival, vintage, as said about on first paragraph of this site:

What a gorgeous, romantic brooch Agram!
I am always amazed at your knowledge Pascale.
It's so cleverly done and does not have that resin look of many items. I am assuming that it was still a relatively expensive piece looking at the detail in this.

Scott and Karen, agree totally in saying she is beautiful and of high quality!
I focused on material and era as Marga asked for help :-)

It seems to me, without being able to see both from the same angles, that another example of this cameo, in a different color, is this one, no?
