Portrait painted on wood. Piece is 38 inches tall and 28 inches wide. The painting and the frame are not separate. The portrait was painted and the frame was painted around it. The wood is concave, not flat. Piece is extremely heavy, very solid. No markings or signature of any kind. Purchased at estate auction about three years ago. No other information available to me. Pictures show from front, black is the back to show how wood was put together in layers, from the side to show it is concave and a close up to show the picture and frame are all in one.

Perhaps a pic of the back and a neat close up of any part of the painting may help....

You can upload 3 more pics with the edit item button!

Thank you for the added pics, Searching1944 :-)

Never seen such a construction... You say extremely heavy... I would go for a beautiful decorator piece with a repro of an old painting.

Hi Dave! My image search for the portrait gave nothing, maybe you'll be able to find it :-)

Thank you kyratango - quite a mystery. Maybe Dave can find something. I have never seen anything like this either.

Ok, Im puzzled with construction, I've collected Paintings for 30 yrs and never seen such a makeup? Take 3rd picture off and replace with a closeup, real close without blurring. I want to see the painting itself, try the bigger girls face.

Im seeing white specks on back, You say heavy? Is this made of Plaster? I'm using a magnifier, looks molded?
    9. Searching1944, 8 years ago
Dave - I have posted the picture you requested. I hope it is clear enough. OMG, you are correct about this being molded. My husband scratched the back with his pocket knife and it is plaster!!! I was told it was wood when I bought it but never questioned it. My husband said that it being molded would account for the extreme weight. If this is the case is it really painted? Thank You.

Get a magnify glass and get right up on picture and see if you can see dot patterns in picture??
    11. Searching1944, 8 years ago
Dave- I got a bright light and looked with my magnifying glass and I don't see any dot pattern. I think I can see faint brush strokes but it looks like there might have been some type of protecting finish over the picture. On the edges where the picture meets the painted frame there is a lot of overlap and the lines are not straight.
