    Hello again,

It's been over two years since I first posted the pix and story of my Lady Enfield, and since then, she has undergone a complete restoration, which included the fitting of three new mainsprings (!) and complete refurbishment of the drive and chime mechanisms.

Also, this time, I had the blokes restore the case as well, which of course, meant a full strip down, and re-application of the French Polished surface.

It was expensive, but to my mind, was entirely worth the cost. She is just like new again now!

    Beautiful!

    Here's a couple of before-and-after pics....

    Many thanks to all.

    John

Refinishing antique finishes can be a controversial topic. One thing is for certain, they really brought out the beauty of the grain pattern with the French Polish technique they used. They may have "amalgamated" the French Polish over remnants of the original shellac finish which helps to preserve the original color/stain of the wood. Very nice clock! Bet it sounds as beautiful as it looks. Thanks for sharing with us.

Positively beautiful , I have one almost identical, french made, double chimer sounds so melodic up till last month, chimes started jitterbugging and shuddering. I,m just about to have it repaired $ 650.00 still in shock however it also was my Great Grandmothers so I must get it done. 3 yrs ago it was in pieces ( my Father had it) a friend "restored " it but decided it needed a new face ( sadly) so he put a white one in, he meant well but I learned a valuable lesson.
