I have looked for this that or the other to ID this with nothing even close. It is too small for a business card holder or toothpick holder. Seems too large for a salt cellar plus nothing similar in research for salt cellar, Fenton, Mosser, Wright or Boyd.
It is 3 1/4" x 2 1/8" along the top. Also it is footed. My guess it is a temporary holder for jewelry pieces.
At $3 it seems a decent buy.
Very nice whatever it is....love it!!
Collar buttons? Shoe buttons? Hair pins, The big ones?
Thank you very much TassieDevil. That is my thought too.
Thank you very much PostCardCollector. Highly likely that is for various small items but would that be called?
Thank you

Well, a pin tray held small items but wasn't that deep, amd usually made of cina ot porcelain. Could it be a "master salt"
Thank you again PostCardCollector. No results for this salt anything with this although it is still possible. I have even tried looking up other colors.
Odd, that this stumps everybody. In its day It was probably a common item that everybody had! Ha Ha. Lost in the passage of years. It will be fun when it finally is correctly identified!!
Post card it is probably something simple. For now it is back in the cabinet.
Thank you OneGoodFind.
closest I see is #99 salt by Cooperative Flint Glass Co. c1910. not sure if it may have also been reproduced by others. Compare the details to this catalog sheet:

Thank you very much TallCakes. That is a very close match aside from slight bowing along the sides of the drawing. This piece does have what appear to be straw marks on the bottom. Generally the repro pieces I have seen do not have straw marks.
Looks like the mystery is solved on this one thank you again..
Thank you
