Any know what this is?

Hi my grandmother left me this and according to grandpa it is either my great grandma's or great greats. It is black shines with gold painted patterns that are slightly raised. There is a sketch of crenellated edge to it. There is a mark on the bottom but can tell what it is. Suspect it has been purely decorative.
