Beingin W-S NC. This brings thing back. Remember the days of the tractors pulling the sled down the road to the tobacco barns. Then the cured leaf in bundles on trailers making their way to sell. Just do not see any more.

I konw a little about tobacco. Back in my first lifetime WHEN I WAS child we made money helping my uncle on the farm. You would get up before daylight go take out the cured barn store it in the packhouse. By this time it was daylight go eat and start all over again. In the fall you would take it off the sticks and and tie it. That is about 5 leaves and one tied around them. Carry it to market and I think he received around 75 cents a pound. We would work about all summer and get around $150.00 after he sold the corp. But back in the late 50's that was a TON to us. I WOULD NOT HAVE TRADED THAT FOR ANYTHINIG. It learned you what you didn't want to be later in life. THE MORE YOU LEARN THE MORE YOU EARN. It is so short from the lack of rain this year it should be over 6 ft. tall. It is around 3 ft. tall and ready to crop. I heard a farmer at a little store in the country say it will take 10 acres to put in just one barn this year. It will be a lean winter for them this year.

rehabman1963, You must be younger then I. We used white mules an beleive me they where watered and fead before you we to eat dinner. If one of them was sick my uncle woudn't know how he would farm that week.

That's okay I've been slaking for years, or it might be like the Ozark Mountain Daredevil's lyrics........ "I'm just a good ole boy, that's learned to wait".
It's a great piece you've got here, and something that's neat, is I showed this post to my son-in-law when this came out and last Sunday, He showed up with one and gave it to the wife. It's not as nice as yours, but if you hadn't posted yours, We wouldn't have it now.
