I'm not sure what this is made of, it could be a red-brown agate, or glass, or even amber. The paintings inside are difficult to make out, but one for sure is a man journeying on a horse or mule with an attendant. The other appears to be a woman and child.
This bottle is in Mongolian style in a metal mount inlaid with turquoise and other stones.
It measures just under 3" tall.

I am so interested in your snuff bottles. If I had room, time and more money I would love some, but restraint must happen so I will just admire and learn from yours.
      Any idea of age?

Thanks racer4four! I have no idea how old this one is. I bought it from a lady in England who found it in a box with some Chinese vases. I am very much a newbie and am making mistakes along the way as I learn. If you are interested I highly recommend that you get Lilla Perry's book simply called "Chinese Snuff Bottles." I think I paid $3.95 for it on Amazon and that way you can find out more about them and view some real examples without spending a lot.

I have done over 9,000 miles across the steps of Mongolia doing research, where snuff is still used as a traditional greeting between men, and I participated every time I met someone new or stat down for a meeting. I am also a credentialed appraiser of art and antiques, specializing in Asian art and antiques. I believe this is sino-tibetan, and about 100 years old, as I think it is too small to be Mongolian. I am uncertain of what the material is without more photos. However, I would be happy and proud to take this out on my next trip out on the steppe, despite it not being pure silver, nor as ornate, nor as large as the ones the Mongols carry. Please feel free to contact me via my email at browntrout@yahoo.com.
