Tall glass pedestal

This pedestal was in my family's flower shop (now closed) for years. It is 15.25 inches tall with a 6.5 inch base and top of 7 inches. The base is octagonal and has a spot where it appears to have been hit (like with a rock on a car windshield).
I wonder if it could have been used for display or maybe had another piece such as a bowl or something else that sat on the top.
There are no maker's marks, so I have nothing to go by.
