    pebble
    (31 items)

Hello all, this is my first post here so apologies if I do something wrong!
I have recently been given these necklaces from a family collection. My mum thinks they're from around the 1930s.

One has a mix of carnelian, agate, aventurine, lapis lazuli and faceted amethyst, one is a green bead/stone that looks different to the aventurine on the mixed pebble necklace, and the third I think is lapis lazuli.
They all have clear faceted glass or rock crystal? spacer beads, and they're all around 42-43cm long.

The green one and mixed pebble one are on silvertone chains with brass spring/bolt catches (sorry I don't know the correct name for these!).

I had originally thought that the blue one was more recent than the others as it has a chrome or stainless steel chain and clasp, but I read recently that these metals were starting to be used for jewellery in the 30s.

If anyone can help, I'd just like to know if my mum is right about the age of these, and if the blue one is a similar age or more recent. Thanks in advance!

Your necklaces are really beautiful. Who did they originally belong to in the family? That would help to date them.

Thank you lentilka11 and Efesgirl for your comments, and to everyone else for the love!

Efesgirl, these either belonged to my grandmother who was born in 1902, or to her younger sister who I think was born around 1911, so I think 1930s would be accurate for the mixed and green necklaces. I have seen a couple of similar ones in local antique shops that claim to be 1930s. It's the blue one that I'm curious about as it's so different with the chrome-type shiny metal chain and clasp, but the gemstone beads and spacer beads are similar.

Sorry, I also meant to say I'm curious to know what stones the green necklace is made from. They're a sort of cloudy solid green, different to the more crystalline green aventurine beads on the mixed necklace.

Might the green be chrysoprase? TBH that's the only other green stone I know that is opaque lol!
      Love your necklaces!

Hi racer4four, thanks for the suggestion - I was googling it last night and had thought the same, so good to know I'm on the right track!

      They are very beautiful!
      I love bead necklace!
I would like to know if the one in the last photo is made of the gem stone falled Lapis Lazuli?

Hi Nicspawee, thank you for your comments! I'm pretty sure the blue beads are Lapis Lazuli stones, I can't think of anything else they could be. I'm just curious about the metal used on this necklace.

racer4four, I just found this about chryophase here http://antiquesavenue.com/512-2/
"Chrysoprase: This is apple green colour hardstone. It is often confused with Jade due to its colour but is not as hard. Very popular in the Art Deco era"
That would fit with the age of this piece.
