Hi All. I recently found this small sommerso vase in a charity shop in West Yorkshire in the UK. When I saw it I immediately thought Murano but (as normal) no label so just guess work on my part. I'm hoping that someone may be able to confirm that it is Murano and even better maybe be able to identify who made it and when. It measures 13.5 cms tall x 6.5 cms wide (at the widest point) and just over 4 cms deep and weighs almost 400 gms. The base is totally flat ground & polished base with no sign of a pontil. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Lovely -- can you post a base pic please.

Always need those pics too when You have places like Novica selling Brazil Glass *in the Murano Style* or saying * influenced by Murano* but it is NOT Murano glass. So base pic please....Thanks

Hi. Thanks for the comments. I've uploaded a few images of the base to photobucket and you can see the links below. I've not come across Norvica before. Not sure if they've reached the UK yet but had a look at their web site and see what you mean! Bases show some nice signs of wear (surface scratches etc), but have a look and see what you think. BTW I've done hours of browsing and found nothing that matches - some Murano comes close but nothing exact.

Thanks you so much for the bottom pics, will take a look at them. Yes, I always need a Base shot before I can really be sure these days. Yes, you are so true about those other ones -- makes giving an ID even harder -- as those are very well made, just not real Murano, Glad for your understanding. Okay will check your other pics out !!

Yes lots of wear.....Did you know you can still post those base pics here, just start another post and make it Part II of this post and add the link. That way your base pics are here and never lost in Photobucket ( as sometimes happens ).. Thanks

I'm convinced it is Murano. The colours are amazing and remind me of my gondola here on CW. I reckon it could even well be Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte. But that is just one opinion among many.

Thanks for everyone's help so far. Flavio Poli - now that would be a find! I'll just have to keep on looking and maybe one day soon will find the answer. It really does look well designed and made - the divide between the colours is crisp and clean and the colours themselves are really clear. Maybe a piece from one of the small manufacturers on Murano in the style of Ventri d'Arte?

I have 2 pieces that I have from my in-laws that have since passed away. They were born and raised in Italy and were 100 years old when they passed. My husband and I would now like to sell these 2 pieces but we are not sure if they are Murano. They are well made and have beautiful colors.

Hi. After some digging around I found some references to mid-century Murano being made from uranium glass. I know not conclusive in any way, but when I've shone a UV light on the vase I am getting the tell-tale green. Does this help anyone id? (Afraid I've still not worked out how to do the part 2 and link the comments together so the image is still a link to photobucket)

Many thanks. I gave the piece to my brother as a Christmas present as he had decided after seeing it he would enjoy collecting glass if this is what could be found. I told him at the time it was probably Murano and in my opinion a rather good piece, so he'll be very pleased to hear your very comments.
