Born December 13, 1921 Chicago ILL
Died August 17, 1952 Hollywood, CA
Born Marie C. Armstrong in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of a wealthy steel magnate who was associated with industrial baron Andrew Carnegie. She appeared in only three full length motion pictures, being best remembered for her role as 'Tamara', in the 1943 film, "Three Russian Girls", a role was supposed to go to Oona O'Neill (the future Mrs. Charlie Chaplin), who bowed out at the last minute. Her other credits include "The Bridge Of San Luis Rey" (1944), and "Sensations Of 1945" (1944). Married to film producer Benedict Bogeaus in 1939, she divorced him in 1945, and married twice more before her untimely death at age 30. On August 17, 1952 after suffering several emotional breakdowns, she is believed to have committed suicide.
It appears that this painting was given to her son by the owner who purchased it at an auction of the subject's effects after her death. He gave it to the subject's son in the 1960s ( see notation on the back of the painting).

How did you come by it?
    6. Celiene Celiene, 8 years ago
Hmm - she was not a silent movie star. She was in her first movie in 1940. Her son's name was Geoffrey Bogeaus. She died at 30. How sad.

      I LOVE this website:

Geoffrey Forsythe Bogeaus is 75 & still alive and living in Los Angeles. He was a top lawyer in L.A. whose law licence was inactive as of 2010. (He was married twice.)

Celiene, Yes. I knew that she was not a silent star before I purchased the painting. I am a silent star fanatic. I also looked up all of the information. The only thing that I didn't know was that the son was still alive. I knew that he was an attorney. I may try to contact him. This is actually an ebay purchase. I stumbled upon it and could not resist. I also put in a best offer that was drastically lower than the initial asking price. I always appreciate your great help and comments :).

Were you able to contact the son?

Trey, Thanks for the reminder. I have been working too much and forgot. I need to contact him.
