My sister was traveling through PA to delivery some wedding confections to her friend and decided to drive the extra hour to Ohio and stop by and visit. She likes to go to estate sales (while I stick to the thrifts) and brought me a few odds and ends that she thought I might like. The 50's diamante eye glasses are very cool with their smokey rhinestone accents. They have a makers mark which is an "M" over a "C" and are also marked 1/10 12K G.F. on the ear pieces. I haven't been able to find the actual makers name online though. There is a tiny support that popped loose at one rhinestone corner but it probably could be soldered and repaired. I saw a pair with a huge value attached to them on Etsy but they are not that valuable on most other sites. The pink glass ribbed ash tray is nice too with a gold tone etched band and holder. Very "deco" but no marks or labels. The quarter size "millefiori" micro mosaic brooch is very bright and pretty. Possibly gold plated on the back but just marked Italy. Finally a souvenir pin from the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. The green enamel is nice but the plated base metal shows lots of wear and pitting. Quite a nice little gift and a neat assortment of items...Thanks Sis ! -Mike-
What a great sister! Some very nice items!
Gee, she did well - and so did you! Love the glasses.
Thanks so much Pops and Bonnie... I think the glasses are pretty cool too. They're actually tri-focals but you could have your prescription put in and wear them even today. Tres chic....lol :)
Thanks Thomas...you should have seen the mink coats she had. Couldn't snag one of those though they were for my niece. :)
Thanks Val... it is a nice assortment. :)
Mike,
You have an incredibly kind and thoughtful sister! These are wonderful little finds!
Thanks Scott she is and I don't get to see her nearly enough. As you can see collecting runs in the family :)
Cool finds and gifts Mike. I love the deco ashtray and the 1934 pin is such an interesting shape.
Of course, the other two bits hit the mark. 'Nuff said!
Thanks Karen....I always wonder if pieces are really ash trays or had some other use. This doesn't seem to have any signs of exposure to heat and except for the metal being dark with age there's no damage.
GREAT PICKS!!
Those glasses are so cool Mike!
Thanks Rick..I think so too. :)
That was very thoughtful of her, and shows she cares that you collect.
Great stuff! Love the glasses too :-)
Thanks so much Phil and Kyra....One day I'll have to go to NJ for a visit so we can spend the day shopping. She knows all the great places between NJ and NY. :)
