This silver button hook was a Christmas present from my husband three years ago. The hook part is from steel, only the handle is silver. It is hallmarked from both sides, I included close ups about the hallmarks. According to marks it was made in Birmingham in 1800s. I'm not sure about the date letter.
I don't know much about silver marks, but I have an inkling it's a counterfeit. It might be only my imagination. My hubby admitted he paid little for it when he won the hook by bidding on ebay.
I appreciate any thought about it, thank you in advance!!!

Not a crochet hook - it's a hook used to button up women's shoes in Victorian and Edwardian times.

I do believe that is a buttonhook.

Thank you, Bonnie, I always thought how strange looking crochet hook it is. Your explanation seems much more plausible.
Thank you and Melanie for your love click!!!

Everytime I see a button hook, I always think of the movie "Sybil"...

Thank you pops for the great link. You checked the London hallmarks, the hook was made in Birmingham. Looking at the Birmingham marks the most possible date is 1905.
