My wife insisted that we stop at a Shabby Chic store while checking out antique stores in Arizona. I rolled my eyes and conceded to stop. While she was ooohhing and aahhing about white cabinets and cupids, I saw a regulator hanging (almost hiding) on a corner wall. I assumed it was a reproduction since the case was in great shape.
I decided to take a closer look and asked to take it down so I could look closer. Some one had replaced the original dial with a cheap paper dial. As soon as I saw the movement, I knew it was a treasure. Even thought the pendulum was proken, and the dial needed to be redone; I payed the full asking price of $65. She even had the original weights.
I cleaned the movement, sent the dial off to be fixed, and now I have a great clock for my collection.
As far as I could find out, it is a early 1900's - late 1800's Gilbert.
Beautiful!!
