The Lyons, Michigan, historical society never responded to my short query, but I could find only one 1907 reference to this product, which should pre-date 1907 as the Food & Drug Act of 1906 removed ''Cure" from the description of any product that couldn't be proven to cure something and made the descriptions be more specific.
This "Specific" supposedly "cures" diabetes and all diseases of the kidney, bladder, liver. Also cures fevers/chills, pains in the neck and shoulders, etc.
A nice pictorial paper label circa 1900 for the Trojan Medicine Co. of Lyons, Michigan. The strong red makes this bottle really stand out.
Approx. population of Lyons when this bottle was made was 630 people.
Lyons is part of Ionia County.
I'll take two bottles....... With everything it "cures", I should easily live to 110!!!
Sorry, only one bottle seems to exist. :P
lol.....I also will take 2 bottles of this stuff. If it will cure my Diabetes, then it must be a miracle tonic.....lol
I have other cures and remedies for that.
As for this one, I wonder if it cures knee-pain, too, or just children-- I mean pains in the neck. :P
See what you mean.
The label is a bit dark, but the graphic (albeit cheaply made) is decent (inaccurate as can be, but visually appealing).
I'd say this is one of my better finds-- out of an antique store I rarely visit, too, as it mainly has junk.
Michigan 'cures' tend to be pretty rare compared to those out of the Eastern seaboard. But those out of tiny towns are even rarer.
