Hello CW friends!!!
Today, we have a lovely Crouch & Fitzgerald of New York ladies' hat trunk. This hat trunk would be from the 1880's to 1890's period and I feel fortunate to own this one as it is still in such wonderful condition. The reddish brown canvas covering is still in pristine condition with no rips, tears or flaws.
Crouch & Fitzgerald of New York manufactured very high end and expensive trunks of all types and this one is just a very fine example of what they produced. The hot tin dipped hardware contains the letters C&F and N.Y. molded into each individual piece. You'll only find that on Crouch & Fitzgerald trunks.
All this one required was a good cleaning and voila!! Though it's missing it's original leather handles, I dare not attempt to replace the handles on this one as I like it just the way it is and wouldn't want to take any chances of damaging or altering this lovely piece in any way.
It still has its' complete interior, which I'll show in my next post.

Thanks!! The finish is all original. It was evidently well cared for by it's original owner. I did have to clean a tremendous amount of surface dirt off with Magic Erasers, but other than that, just a good conditioning with beeswax and that was it. Scott, this such a beautiful little Trunk, lately I start to looking to find my first one at the thrift store, no luck yet.
Over the years, I found quite a fews, but never keep it, dam.

Thanks very much!! The "M" is hand painted on each end and is the initial of the person who originally owned it. I have many with the original owners' initials painted on the top or sides. It was quite common to have that done back then.
