    TottenPrai…
    (1 item)

We've recently acquired this item and have no idea what it is. It is hand-blown and very large, the bowl standing 15 inches at it's highest point and spanning 20 inches. The item came from El Paso, Texas some time between the 50's and 60's, we were told. The flowers and leaves are obviously part of it, and we were told they "mount" in the bowl with some sort of a clay substance. (We have seen these with "holes" in the bowl for the leaves and flowers, but this one is smooth) We're desperately looking for information on this item,....even a "name" would be great! Thanks in advance!

I'm with you on the epherne, Dave, but ours is VERY large and has no holes in the bowl for the pieces. We were told they mount with a floral clay, or something like that. Would that be correct?

I found many under the name "Epergne" rather than epherne. None, however, like yours.
Floral clay is nowhere near strong enough to hold the weight of the flowers if they are supposed to be in an upright position. In my mind's eye, it just doesn't look correct.

So....what the heck is it? Lol!
    6. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
LMAO!!! You have a giant tentacled bowl and a bunch of flowers....
    7. Dizzydave Dizzydave, 8 years ago
I think there would have been a glass disc with holes that sat inside the bowl and each stem would slide into holes. I think Efesgirl is right clay would not hold the weight of glass stems.

Then again, maybe its just decoration that just sits and hangs over edge of bowl?

I also have seen the extra piece that sits in the bowl to hold the flowers, etc., maybe that piece got broken.

Ivonne's example is a very good one indeed. A google image search brings up a few pages with 'epergne' as the main source word, followed by all kinds of different secondary words -like flutes, centrepiece, flowers etc.
So I'm not sure if you have the correct type of bowl, but you do have the correct inserts.

      All the best.
