My mother bought this from antique store she worked at on Brookeville Rd in Chevy Chase, Md early 1940's. The owner of the shop said in belonged to Clara Barton of the Red Cross.
I would like to know if this can be proven.

No way to prove it unless you find a picture of her sitting at this exact desk and it was only one ever made , but it is a really nice piece and I love it even if Clara never touched it .

      Great desk.

Provenance (Documented ownership history) is the key to proving. Family lore often assigns ownership of objects and a family history of famous connections or ancestors-- so even an early family letter MAY not prove the point.

I am a skeptic when it comes to historically connected items and like most dealers/ collectors look for iron clad documentation.

I certainly would investigate the family story and see what you can find/ prove.

It is a great object in its own right!

Also, recommend that you switch your last photo to the lead as it will attract much more interest.

One antique store here has a pipe that FDR used. ;)
