We were amazed when our driver presented us with this gift, it is a putter marked Special Gem Putter, hand forged Wm. Gibson Co., Kinghorn.
We were wondering if there was a way to date it's manufacture? And is it alright to clean it up for framing in a shadow box with our other treasures from this recent trip to Scotland?
Thanks for your help.

You may wish to look at this site, which gives some history to Gibson.

Gibson used the Star mark that is stamped on the putter. The date is likely to be 1900 - 1930 and the club can be cleaned using either wire wool or some emery cloth (this was used by the caddies, which is why many old clubs have the markings rubbed off).
Not very valuable (£15-25 probably, assuming it has a grip).
