Clock has written on lower face of clock, made in United States of America By WML Gilbert Clock co. Winsted Conn. I found this treasure today Aug 9th 2016. In the back of the clock there is a entrance to the inside of the clock. I opened that entrance to find a note hand written saying it was a wedding gift for the bride and groom in 1905 which names were given. Then a date of 1907 June 3, bride and groom passed clock down to another person which is named. Now also on the same note there is another name written showing passed down again in 1912 on October 23rd .
This clock is a beautiful piece of work and had to have been made some time in the late 1800 to 1904. I have not found another clock like this one. For now I will have to say it is my goal to treasure as my own, and continue to track its true age.

Welcome to Collectors Weekly Jesiejj and thanks for sharing your lovely example of a Gilbert "Athol" model enameled wood case mantel clock with us.

My reference has the circa of this model from 1904. It certainly could have been manufactured a few years before or after that date. Judging from the provenance information you've supplied, I think 1904-05 would be a good guess.

It was offered in "Italian Marble", "Scotch Granite" and "Nubian" finishes. I'm not certain but I think your clock has the "Italian Marble" finish. These were simulated enamel paint finishes on wood cases (probably pine).

These clocks originally listed for $6.75 in 1904, or about $182 in 2016. All in all, I think it was a very generous Wedding Gift which appears to have been well cared for through the years.

Here's a link to another example which was offered at auction a few years ago:

You can find other examples by searching for Gilbert Athol Clock.

I hope that helps solve your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask away.
