This table had its original shellac finish on it and a coat each of blue, red, green, and gray paint. I had to steam the joints so that I could loosen the hide glue that was used to glue the joints with. I used KWIK stripper to take off the old finish. I used hide glue to reglue the the table and I made garnet shellac to put the original finish back on the table. I don't understand why people paint such beautifully figured wood. It only take a little time to strip it and bring it back. If you have to paint it at least put a coat of varnish or shellac over the wood before you paint it. Because it is almost impossible to get the paint out of the wood pores. Nothing makes me more upset then someone that has ruined a beautiful piece of furniture by being so thoughtless. Yes I do know there are pieces out there that are suppose to be painted. That bothers me only do to the fact I like natural wood better. But of course "To each his own".
