The many.many yeards it took to make this dress for a woman in the Civil War era, would have been paid with money well spent! It must have taken a lot of time, and the dress is beautifully made. The puff or "Leg o' Mutton sleeve style was actually "arm". I cannot imagine how overweight ladies got into and stayed into dress that weighed as much as they did. She is a pleasant looking person that was well loved I am sure--and THAT is all that matters.--The person-- not the size. She is embellished with a gold belt. Nothing else is colored.. Classic statuary in the back'
On the bottom says : S. Bothwell, photo, Douglas and the unusual back belt design& Running leg "dial" and around the belt, Samuel Bothwell, Artist Douglas. Excellent Condition. I'll find a Skin & Bone counterpoint to this soon and post. But really, none could look more regal that this lady!!

Clearly from the Isle of Man being from Douglas and with the treskilion.
My husband's mum was Manx and I swear her and her family had this look I think is very Manx. Very round face and high forehead. I'm not saying it is a relative, just it reminds me of her family!

How interesting! I had a Manx Cat--Long haired Tortoiseshell, with no tail. I guess this is typical. Best, smartest cat I ever had, and lived to be 16.
Folks in more isolated places in the world did manage to continue to show their ancient faces longer-- Not much "new blood arriving, I guess. So characteristics such as the lady exhibits are indicative of her birthplace.. I can recognize an Irishman pretty well. My grandmother was Irish (pure) and her friends and family and to this day, I can usually recognize the type before the person says they are O'Brien. Ha ha.
Yes. I see the really round face and that is a very high forehead! Thanks for your observation!
