    katherines…
    (247 items)

So when I was a kid, much of downtown San Diego was basically a place of past glory, old rundown hotels and departments stores and little shops, with most of the land nearest to the waterfront dedicated to sailors' pasttimes, like pinball arcades and little diners and souvenir shops and porn theatres. My high school was slightly north of downtown, and when I would change buses, I'd walk around and window shop. There was this import store on Broadway I loved visiting as even back then Asian decor was fascinating to me. One thing that especially appealed to me was the black and white dragonware. I always wanted a dragonware tea set but the prices were out of my range, all I could do was moon over them and think some day I'd be able to afford the cost. That old downtown scene is mostly gone now, San Diego has become a tourist mecca with sleek shops and hotels and cafes and bistros. The only place you'd find dragonware today is in the second hand stores and at a good markup so still out of my reach, some things never change, lol. As it happens I found these bits at a swap meet last weekend and for two bucks I was very happy to take them home. It's a miniature teapot, cup and saucer, and I thought the other piece was the tray for the set, but no, it is a lemon leaf dish, so called because of the leaf shape of the dish and because it was used to serve lemon wedges with the tea set it originally came from and with; research informs me this lemon leaf dish is a somewhat rarer piece. I was taken with these pieces from the moment I saw them, as the intricate raised moriage decor suggested they were vintage, and the backmarks and labels proved this out. I love these pieces. As close to the dragonware sets as I may ever get, finally at last. :) I hope you enjoyed seeing them, and thanks for looking.

So good Katherine! I really like the idea of the miniatures; somehow they seem more appealing and clever. I have never seen or heard of the lemon leaf dish. How cool is that!
Any idea whose mark it is?
