Greetings, fellow glass enthusiasts
It's my first post ever so please be kind :)
Pictured is Wilbur, a Loetz pig vase, my awesome find and my most favorite piece. I found him online and snapped him up quickly for an embarrassingly small sum a couple months ago.
As can be seen, he had a terrible accident at some point in the past and has lost both his ears, a bit off his tail, and some chips on his feet. Is a wonder he wasn't broken to smithereens. I was hoping someone could advise as to whether I should have him restored? If so, who does such a thing? I've had a bit of a search online, and I could find no one in the Southeast...
Thanks so much!
Meredith K
*Please forgive the quality of the photos, photography is not my strong suit and glass objects seem to be particularly difficult. I'll take another crack at Wilbur's portraiture this week, though...
I originally clk'd because I saw Alabama & I left there (Anniston, then Montgomery) 43 yrs ago & knew your area fairly well. Hey, pigs fight & lose ears, tails & other parts. Welcome to CyberAsylum/CW
Welcome! I would leave him as his damage is his story....but I am no Loetz expert so ignore at your leisure!!
Racer4four, I'm certainly no expert either! I was just wondering what the general consensus was on restorations of such pieces? It just seems like he needs ears, tho :)
