GeodeJem
(404 items)
I found this today, I've no idea what it is, perhaps its a Jewish thing the stall holder suggested it was German and while it does have a made in Germany sticker on it, that's just a sticker.
The item is all glass with a plain drinking glass type base, thin so its modern.. Then it has facted irregular notches, which effect the centre scene and in the notches we have tiny star of David symbols and a cross.
The glass centre changes as your turn it, these range from a drinking vessel, an orb with a simple cross on it, to the ovoid with the St Davids Cross on it.
Four photos isn't sufficient to do it justice. 20cm approx. I thin it is quite clever how the notches line up to present a centre scene.
Very unusual. I think it's lovely.
I have never seen anything like it before Jem. So well designed and made!
I can't provide any more info on the maker but here's a similar piece with a Western Germany sticker that would limit the date range to 1949-1990 (assuming the sticker refers to the country West Germany and not just the western part of Germany, of course).

Thank you all.
Here's a similar item from Kisslinger (Austria). The eBay auction link is missing the pictures but there's more info in the description:
