Hello all ..
I bought these pieces in some second hand shops in Sydney .
The Arabia bird intrigues me as ive yet to find any reference material relating to date of production - and price ..
I have scoured the internet and have posted here in the the hope someone can help ..
Hi from Sydney. I think I saw a similar bird at Rozelle recently. Search under Winqvist, Peter. A very subtle use of line that reminds me of Japanese wood-blocks. Are the other pieces candle-holders?
Hi Vetraio , the bird you saw in Rozelle is the one i bought .... What are the odds .
Thanks for the tip on the initials , that led me straight to the Arabia museum of Finland . Still no record of production , however one step closer .... thanks again !
And , yes , the other piece does look like candlestick holders .
Hi again.
WINQVIST, PETER b. 1941. He worked at Arabia from 1965-74. Your piece will fit within that time period.
Probably better know is JAATINEN-WINQVIST, ANJA ( b. 1934) who worked at the factory from 1955-1974. I think she is still alive.
She and P.W. worked together on some really well known commercial designs.
After completing her studies at the Central School of Applied Arts Helsinki 1955, Anja Jaatinen worked at Arabia as a product designer and ceramic artist nearly twenty years. At Arabia she created mostly handmade decorative art ceramic objects for Arabia Studio, but she also designed few tableware patters, for example the pattern 'Kaira' and 'Karelia', that became very popular especially in Finland. In 1974-1991 Anja Jaatinen worked for another well-known Finnish ceramic manufactory: Pentik Oy. Anja Jaatinen participated several exhibitions in Finland and abroad, including: Stockholm (Linjevalch), -62; Faenza -64; Musée Cantini -65; New York -64; London (Danasco)-69; Mexico -79; Tel Aviv -70. In 1976 she received the Finnish States Award for Graft and Design. Information: Marjut Kumela: "Arabia" 1985; Rita Taskinen: 'Who's who in Finnish Design' 1992.
I'm not sure but perhaps Peter and Anja were married.
I've only found one other of his pieces for sale on the internet. It's in Finland.
regards
STUNNING!!!
I have one of these birds too. Mine came from eBay a couple of years ago. They are a little strange, acquired taste, I think. I believe they are from the early 1970s.
