My father-in-law's dad worked for the railroad back in the day. They were cleaning out railroad cars and throwing everything away. He asked if he could keep the lamps. This is one of those lamps. I love it and my son has already claimed it when I'm gone.

It's an adlake kero lamp. #300 for the Chicago & Northwestern railway. The glass is not cracked or chipped. The metal seems to be in perfect condition.

Thanks nicefice. I cleaned it up and showed it to my father-in-law before he passed. I'm so glad I did because the story is worth more than anything.

Was that the original Globe that was in the lantern when he found it? I always thought that these ribbed globes were more commonly in Nautical lanterns. If so, it's unusual and quite special. RER

As far as I know that is the original globe but I only know what my father-in-law told me. Now that you mention it most of the ones I've seen are clear. It might be a replacement but it would have been long ago.

It had been a while since I did any research on the lantern. While most of the red lenses are globes several are ribbed like this one. I could see no reason why there are differences.

I looked up a lot of lantern globes for sale on eBay and elsewhere and there were similar as yours globes selling as RR globes. So Isuppose they were interchangeable. Bob

Yes there are Bob, I found few lantern the other day at the Salvation.
I didn't post yet, but one was damage, I manage to remove the broken glass, easy to do.
      Very nice one above.
      Regards
      Alan
