Looking for any information about this picture. It was given to me from my mother about 15 years ago. She purchased it from an estate auction. The lady that owned it lived to be 104.
The blue that you see is only a reflection, the colors are black and white with a lot of grey.
The frame is made from wood, with a lot of detail. it measures 26 inches.
It's called The Pharaoh's Horses. There are many prints out there, some more valuable than others.

J.F. Herring painted this in 1848, the model was his own horse. The original name was "Pharoah's Chariot Horses". Many prints are dated 1900. Per the internet there are also the following years: 1897, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1908. By the 20's you could see this print on many things such as bank notes, and even advertising for Grain. Mine is pre 1921, but I haven't investigated beyond that. Like you it was given to me. My Grandmother gave it me when I was twelve. Some prints that were framed came from full page advertising, or store posters in the 20's. I would say in order to find out you will have to ask a professional.
At the very least take it out of it's frame to see if there is a date. You might not want to do that, I know I didn't.

Even if I did know the date of the frame that wouldn't be proof positive of the date. most of these were either round or put in round matting, it could have been transferred to this frame. Probably not, but that is what you will be told by dealers. Dating frames is not an easy one, and usually you will have a 10-20 year window. Do some research on the net and look around for what to look for in a good print.
It also wouldn't tell you if it were a print or a piece of advertising. I can tell you this, I have seen bad prints that were done in black and white instead of sepia. I guess they are calling the black and whites lithographs (bad print is just my opinion because it lacks color). I rarely see the color version of this with any age to it. Sadly if you are looking for value you will have to find an expert or take it out and look for the date.
