Hello everyone.
This is a combination match book holder and cigar cutter. It has a patent date of Oct 12. 15 and is maker marked for R&G Co. This is possibly Ripley and Gowan. It measures 2 1/2" x 2".
It is a gorgeous rose gold colour, plated or filled or rolled gold I would imagine....it does not have any gold marks!!! It is in lovely condition on the outside, with use marks on the inside.....I have just put an old matchbook in it for show.....
It has a beautiful scrolled design and initials on the front, with the back plain. I am thinking it was probably used by a lady....but could have been used by a man I guess attached to a watch chain.....what do you think?
I think this one is just beautiful, and unusual. I have had this since 2009.
Hope you enjoy seeing it.....thanks, Judy
Most likely for a man, as I don't think women smoked cigars in 1912... :-)))) Or, did they? :-O
I would imagine it was attached to a chain and put in a pocket. It's really lovely!
Thanks Bonnie, not sure about women smoking cigars in 1915, cheroots were smaller though so maybe.......but I think it is more the size (even though it is so pretty) for a man as you say, attached to his watch chain in his pocket.
Thanks for the love too!!
Thanks so much for the love Martika, really appreciated!
It's lovely Judy.
What are the initials on the front?
Hi Karen, thanks....I think the initials might be HSF.....that script is beautiful but so hard to read!!!
