I haven't posted much of my Japanese art glass for a while so thought I would show this pretty vase that just shouts it's Japanese origins.
A soft blue with large white spatter and a white rim and foot, it has been generously scattered with either gold dust or aventurine. I am inclined to think it is gold dust, mainly because Japanese art glass of this quality is often heavily decorated with gold sheet or dust, hang the expense. If someone can tell if it's aventurine I will be happy to know!
The vase has been sandblasted for a satin look. The base is unsigned.
Who made it? I don't know and as the previous owner had inherited it they were unsure. The box it came with unfortunately is missing it's lid so there is no available record of the artist.
The vase is very much in the style of master Kyohei Fujita and the box is certainly the right age for him. His earlier work was often unsigned so I might be lucky.
Another possibility is Kunaki Kurioki although I am not sure about the foot. Unless someone can give me a real direction this will remain and unknown.
Height 18cm
Very pretty blue color.
It is lovely Karen, the blue is beautiful!!
This is so appealing, Karen, snowflakes and fairy dust! Unknown but not unloved.....
Hi Karen. So beautiful, outstanding. It reminds me of snow.. If it wasn't for your posts I'd be totally ignorant of Japanese glass, so thank you :)
Like Peggy @sklo42 and Fran @Vintagefran, I too see snowflakes. Or even white blossom petals floating down a blue sky. It's very pretty. [;>)
Very nice vase Karen! The white against that lovely blue makes a lovely combination! If I were to hazard a guess, I would say aventurine, but that's just a guess.
Oh!.. This is beautiful..it has everything..:-)
Beautiful color
Caper and Judy - so glad you like the blue; it's an unusual colour for glass.
Thanks to you both!
Peggy it is indeed loved. Thanks for the fairy love!
Fran thank you - like your beautiful glass I like to share.
Thanks Olebodie! Haven't seen any Japanese glass in your fantastic collection yet!!
KJ - it seems a very Japanese motif to me - cherry blossom petals and snowflakes. I am happy you guys have given me a theme for this so thanks :)
Rick thanks for the aventurine vote. You know glass well so I am happy to accept that it isn't gold. Thanks for loving the vase too.
Inky!! Happy to hear from you mate, and with such a great compliment too.
