i found this beautiful piece of pottery today at a junk shop near my house. it's about 7.5 inches tall and across. Signed 'Gorky' and has a stamp which says C & D Pottery, Hand Thrown Pottery, Gorky Yosite, ..... Laurel St., Choguete Africa, and then many numbers. does anyone recognize it or know anything about it? it is a very beautiful piece made by a very skilled potter. perfect weight and construction and very nice glaze and cool textures.
i don't think it says 'Africa' any more, but i can't figure out more than a few words on it. grrrr!
has anyone heard of C & D Pottery? i've found nothing online which really surprises me because this is one of the most well-made pots i've ever had. it's subtle and beautiful!
Could find anything either, but here’s a link to the Smithsonian museum of African Art, you may be able to contact them and get some info.
It is a beautiful piece, I love the texture!

i don't think it's african. it's really hard to read the writing on it, but where i thoght it said 'Africa' is the last name of Gorky, and now i think it says something like Ysmite - who knows?!
I have a pot with similar marks. How do I add it to this post?
