I have seen a number of these Kurata vases for sale on my internet travels and eventually succumbed and bought this one. I was surprised when I received it as it seems so much bigger than I expected. Silly of me really because the size was noted in the ad and I am used to Japanese glass being oversized. Not that it's huge at 30cm, it's more that the style would be better suited to a smaller vase (I think anyway).
I believe these vases date to the 1950s or 60s at the latest.
At this time Kurata were masters at making moulded glassware and this vase is a demonstration of that.
Made from white glass with a clear case the finish on it is excellent. Even with unforgiving iridescence there is no sign of moulding marks.
Kurata also made this decor in a shorter squat shape although I do see less of them.
This vase would look beautiful in isolation in a pared back room.
I'll admit it gets lost here in clutterville.
Love it Karen!! I am sure the striking color and shine does not get that lost in Clutterville ......LOL
I think this is really pretty Karen!!
You're having a blue and gold period now :).Can you continue?
Thanks Rose! Hey I get lost here! My kids get lost and Shaun? Last saw him a few weeks ago. Nah, it's not quite that bad. Lucky this vase is a good size after all.
Thanks Judy. I do love the pearl look of this.
Ivonne I'm trying to figure what to post now you have said that lol!
I was going for pink next....will have to check out my unposted blues :)
so so beautiful
This certainly sure is a beauty Karen!
Very striking Karen and I''m sure the size makes it even more imposing. :)
It's great, Karen, but it reminds me too much of my sagging old body! [;>)))))
Gorgeous vase Karen! The shape is fantastic too with those long "drips" coming down the sides... Beautiful!
Thanks for seeing the beauty Thomas, Kivantitz and Scott. I appreciate your thoughts.
Imposing is a good word for it Mike even with what is a subtle decor for the Japanese.
Really KJ?! I hope you gleam also lol!!
Rick thank you. I like the draped look myself!
Beautiful! I really love this!
It would suit your house style too V, a little bit nouveau.
Thanks:)
