she is in need of professional repairs, but has always sat on the mantle. Marble which got broken decades ago and was repaired by putting plaster of paris in the base. The lady has stayed the same, always sat in that position, The posy vase used to be able to be removed until it was also plastered into place, used to have a metal dog on a chain where the lion now is.
Unable to check for markings underneath because of plaster, Marble was once painted to deter it getting pawned by a partner with a drinking problem. [Mum did not choose wisely that time]
It has been in my family for as long as I can remember 60+ years. would like to know more about it, have never seen another like it
A lot of alabaster things and onyx have a plaster filler such as larger pedestals which probably made it more secure for moving, and to hold the bond of the pieces while curing. I have a very large victorian onyx pedestal that has it used in abundance. Though never broken the plaster has helped it to be never broken.
